Nanyamba is located on the Makonde plateau, west of Mtwara and was opened as the 2nd station in 1960.
In the health center in Nanyamba, the sick receive outpatient and inpatient care. The open cooking and fireplaces cause painful burn injuries, especially in children, which often require weeks of treatment. The previous operating room in Nanyamba had to be rebuilt due to the requirements of the government in Tanzania. The new premises have been completed. Caesarean section operations can now be performed on complicated births and save the lives of many mothers and children.
The ” Under 5 ” program, the medical care of children under 5 years of age, is one of the tasks that is particularly close to the heart of our sisters in Nanyamba. The children are weighed and examined. Most children have deficiency symptoms, are malnourished and depend on powdered milk
All teachers in our sisters’ kindergartens are trained in Montessori pedagogy. It is very important to the nurses and teachers that the children learn to read, arithmetic and write in kindergarten, as there is no guarantee that the children will then receive a school education. About 160 children attend the kindergarten in Nanyamba. At lunchtime, the children receive Udji, a warm, nutritious porridge made from cornmeal.
In the housekeeping school with boarding school, girls and women receive training to become housekeepers and seamstresses in two years, giving them prospects for the future and life.
The sisters also provide pastoral services in the parish in Nanyamba.
