SISTERS OF THE HOLY REDEEMER
n 1956, the Bishop of Wurzburg, Germany recommended that the Sisters of the Redeemer mission Sisters to Tanzania following a request for their presence by the German Bendictines. In 1957, Sister Ernesta Huth became the first Holy Redeemer Sister missioned to Africa. The following year, additional Sisters accompanied Sister Ernesta and the first community was opened in Luagala, Tanzania. Today, the Sisters of the Redeemer are in 7 areas in Tanzania.
The Sisters and their partners in mission in Tanzania serve those who are poor and disadvantaged through the following ministries:
- Montessori teaching schools
- Health centers for children and adults
- Vocational training centers for women
- Parish work
- Farming
At the moment, mainly Tanzanian sisters are working in eight different places:
- Chihangu
- Dar es Salaam (Chamazi)
- Kite
- Litumbandyosi
- Luagala
- Mtwara
- Nanyamba
- Tandahimba
This work is largely supported through the generosity of benefactors in the United States and Germany.
Our Mission
Our mission is to impart the healing love of Jesus Christ to those we meet – whether a patient in the hospital, a resident in the nursing home or a young mother in the grocery line. We seek to share hope, mercy, and comfort through prayer, charitable works, and personal encounters.
Our Vision
We address issues of injustice facing our sisters and brothers across the world including human trafficking, violence and abuse in all forms. We believe in the right of all people to live in peace and safety and condemn all forms of oppression. We commit ourselves to the support of refugees. We believe that access to quality healthcare and education is a right of all persons.
