Mtwara, regional house

The management of the Tanzania region is based in Mtwara, a small town on the Indian Ocean in southern Tanzania. Our sisters have been working there since 1975.

The sisters take care of the poor and the sick in the nearby fishing village, bring cornmeal and beans. Your greatest concern is with children infected with HIV. At Christmas, the sisters give special gifts to the poor. The women get a new cloth, soap, rice and some cash and the men a T-shirt.

Mtwara, Montessori Teacher Training Center

In the congregation’s own training center , educators and primary school teachers are trained in Montessori pedagogy. The students produce the Montessori learning material for the kindergartens themselves, mostly from wood, pearls, shells and paper.

Mtwara, St. Paul Majengo

In the outpatient health center , those seeking help receive medical advice and treatment.
In the past few years the number of children under one year of age treated annually has increased enormously. The little ones in particular are in urgent need of our help. Most children have deficiency symptoms, are malnourished and depend on powdered milk.

A total of around 150 children attend the St. Lioba and Shangani West kindergartens in Mtwara and are already learning to read, arithmetic and write according to the Montessori pedagogy.

In the parish, the sisters help as catechists. They work in the parish ministry and in the school.
